The classical and moving memorial was one of five designs singled out from a pool of 350 alternatives.
Kimmel Studio Architects designed this National World War I Memorial. There was an open competition, and the design was one out of the five designs selected down from over 350!!! It was the only traditional design chosen and it was the people's favorite—by more than 50%. The proposed site was only a few blocks away from the White House, on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC.
