Sabrina Kindervater

Sabrina Kindervater is a Junior Industrial Designer at Kimmel Crafted, where she applies research, hands-on experimentation, and material exploration to the development of lighting, furnishings, and other functional objects. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Product Design with a minor in Graphic Design from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her foundation in fine arts and visual media continues to influence how she balances function, craft, and creative expression.

Sabrina is interested in both what a product can do for people and how it is made. She is drawn to projects grounded in material, theoretical, or user-based research and enjoys carrying ideas through sketching, modeling, iterative prototyping, and fabrication. Her experience includes woodworking, laser cutting, 3D printing, molding and casting, metalworking, and textile techniques.

Her commitment to sustainable design shaped her senior thesis, the NODO Floor Lamp. After researching more than 120 knots, Sabrina developed a lighting system that uses rope and cord in place of screws or adhesives, allowing its components to be disassembled, reused, or adapted. The project reflects her interest in bringing traditional craft and industrial production together to create functional objects of lasting value.

Sabrina’s interest in industrial design began at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, where Walter Dorwin Teague’s Nocturne Radio introduced her to furniture and product design as art forms.

Outside the studio, Sabrina enjoys knitting and crocheting, finding inspiration in the structures and systems behind each technique. She also enjoys making pieces for friends and family and spending time outdoors, especially near the water.
