  • About the Role

Are you a designer who loves to work with your hands just as much as you love building in 3D? Kimmel CRAFTED is seeking a versatile, high-energy Junior Industrial Designer to join our growing studio.

As we are in our startup phase, this isn't a "sit at your desk all day" kind of job. You will be an integral part of a small, nimble team, helping us bring high-end lighting, furniture, and objects from concept to reality. This is a rare opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a design studio and see exactly how a brand is built.

    What You’ll Do

As part of our early-stage venture, your day-to-day will be diverse. You will support the design process through:

    • Design & Development: Drafting technical drawings and creating 3D models for new lighting fixtures and furniture pieces.

    • Prototyping: Operating 3D printers and performing traditional model-making to test forms and functions.

    • Operations & Logistics: Managing orders, coordinating with vendors, and sourcing materials.

    • Studio Support: Assisting with the "myriad of tasks" that keep a design office running—from maintaining our Maker studio to prepping pieces for shipment.

    Who You Are

    • A "Maker" at Heart: You have a degree in Industrial Design (or a related field) and a portfolio that shows you understand how materials behave and how things are put together.

    • Technically Proficient: Skilled in CAD/CAM and parametric modeling, utilizing Inventor, SolidWorks, or Rhino and comfortable with Adobe Creative Suite.

    • Adaptable: You thrive in a startup environment where "that's not in my job description" isn't in your vocabulary. You are happy to pivot from 3D modeling to talking to a machinist to packing a delicate glass globe.

    • Detail-Oriented: You understand that in high-end craft, the difference between "good" and "great" is in the final millimeter.

    Why Kimmel CRAFTED?

    • The Best of Both Worlds: We offer the grit and excitement of a startup, backed by the stability of our parent company Kimmel Studio, which houses Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design studios.

    • Collaborative Culture: You’ll work alongside experts across multiple disciplines, providing a holistic view of the design world.

    • Location: Work in the heart of beautiful Annapolis, Maryland, in a studio dedicated to the art of making.

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • ACTION REQUIRED: Please complete this application form to be considered

    • Please submit your resume and a PDF portfolio (or link to a portfolio website) highlighting your process, CAD skills, and physical prototypes.
