ILYRA CARLTON

Ilyra Carlton brings a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach to furniture design and custom furnishings at Kimmel Crafted. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Furniture Design with a minor in Design for Sustainability from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Her studies included furniture design in Copenhagen and regenerative design work in Ecuador, broadening her understanding of how culture, material, and environment can shape design.

Ilyra is especially drawn to creating custom pieces for established interiors. The surrounding architecture provides a foundation from which she can explore form, material, function, and the individual needs of the client. Her experience spans furniture production, upholstery, woodworking, metalworking, fabrication, exhibition production, and art handling, giving her a practical understanding of how ideas move from concept to finished object.

In 2024, Ilyra won the Hospitality Design and West Elm Student Product Design Competition for her Rogan barstool, which was selected for production by West Elm. Her senior capstone, Together and Separate, was also recognized as a student winner in the 2025 NYCxDESIGN Awards.

Outside the studio, Ilyra enjoys cycling, hiking, exploring new restaurants, and traveling. She finds inspiration in other cultures and landscapes and particularly admires Lina Bo Bardi’s Glass House for the way its architecture embraces the surrounding natural environment.
