An oyster boat’s second life, shaped by salvage, craft, and coastal heritage.
We found an authentic 1960s Chesapeake deadrise oyster boat and gave it a second life as a bar—then designed a boat shed around it to match. In this story of true adaptive reuse, the boat isn’t the only element with a past.
The shed’s metal roof and wood siding were salvaged from a nearby barn. Bar stools are crafted from repurposed boat stands. The vessel itself rests on reclaimed railroad tracks, allowing it to glide in and out of the building.
Layered with reuse, the project forms a one-of-a-kind space that feels both new and deeply rooted in history. Anchored in Deale, Maryland, the bar draws directly from the character, craft, and quirks of the region’s fishing communities.
